Subject: [Q] Diffrential switch on 4kcsq
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi,
I have a question on the correct usage of the differential locking
switch on a 87 4kcsq. This switch has two settings, the front
(central) and the rear differential (2nd position). Could someone
describe what are the differences in the two, and how fast can I go
while the car is thus engaged.
My understanding is that the quattro system when unlocked, delivers
power to whatever wheel has the most traction at any one time. The
center differential provides a locking for the front to rear bias to
keep applying the same force to front and rear wheels at the same
time. The rear lock is for extreme situations only, like getting
stuck.
Is that right? Comments?
