I used to be in the international shipping business.

One can do this, even with a car that has never been crash tested in the
US. Bill Gates problem in particular is that the 959 was a car the USDOT
and EPA decided to make anexample of.

Now, I never said it was easy, but here goes.

You must remove the engine from the car before shipping into a US port.
Better still would be to strip the car to a shell completely. you could
ship everything except the enigine with the car. The engine must be
shipped separately, eithe refore or after, preferably to a different port
of enter than you ship the car. If all you want is a powertrain option
not available in the US, just transplant.

But if you want a new or used car, such as as Lancia Delta integrali or An
Alfa 155 all wheel drive or an Opel or Vauxhall Calibra 4X4, yank out the
engine, crate it, send it, and then send the car in a container. No
question, it's going to cost a bundle, but it can be done.

Remember there will always be unique problems to each import of each car.
Some of the difficulties encounted depend entirely upon with whom you are
dealing.
