Careful! Torque wrenches come in a lot of sizes and ranges. I use a small
in-lb (not ft-lb) 3/8" drive for the small stuff...convert ft-lb to in-lb by
multiplying by 12. Don't try to use the lower 15-20% of the torque wrenches
range since the % accuracy of the wrench is very poor there... their rated
accuracy is for FULL scale.
Also... pay attention to the amount of turning required after the bolt is
snug. BMW uses a similar method in their automated assembly... the bolt is
snugged, then turned maybe 1/3 to 3/4 of a full turn further. This method,
according to the article, removed thread contamination from the tightening
process...after all, its the amount of bolt tension that is to be achieved,
not bolt torsion.
