Um, in a previous life, I was into high end audio...(well, midrange audio
for anyone who knows what an electrostatic speaker looks like...). Sold a
bunch of fine Bose speakers and equipment to people who wouldn't consider
owning anything else...and it wasn't just because our store was in the
shadow of the Mountain (Bose headquarters in Framingham, MA).
Me, I wouldn't choose to own a Bose system, cos my ears don't like what Dr.
Bose does. And I *hate*, absolutely *hate* the Bose system in my 200. It
*does* suck, bigtime. No high end, no imaging, fat muddy bottom.
In the Volvo I just sold <sigh>, I had ads 320i component speakers
front/rear powered by an ads 3 way amp. Tight bottom, well defined top end,
clean quality sound. I bought enough power to run a subwoofer, but never
added one...
In my new truck, I've got the stock component speakers (HK I think, along
with a stock factory subwoofer...I don't think this system provides the
same kind of clarity overall that my Volvo's system did...but then again,
it came with the truck, and I can't complain cos it doesn't suck. In fact,
aside from a lack of "presence" the clarity on the high end, particularly
on CD, is pretty durn good.
Other people would complain that the Volvo system had no bass...and that
the Rover won't play loud enuff. Both are acceptable to me...
And that's the problem with sound...everyone's taste (and ears) are
different. Unfortunately, the 200 has a pretty well integrated system that
is difficult to R&R, particularly in pieces.
Now if I could only get a pair of Maggies in the back... <g>
Just my humble ramblings,
