Turns out that only registered dealers with the state of Michigan can
get in on the auction of wrecked vehicles. If there is anyone on the
QuattroList who has any further ideas of how I might be able to get the
car, or get someone to get it for me, please respond. ProTech said that
they would not release who the car was sold to at the auction so I
cannot
trace it that way. Ideas... Anyone...

Robert:
Ckd with my dealer contact in MI... Bottom line is you lost out on this
one... Basically, the way Insurance companies handle crashes is as follows:
* Crash Car
* Insurance company has it towed to a holding Lot, usually a salvage yard,
but not necessarily
* Adjuster totals car, agrees to salvage value and owner payoff, now Title
is Insurance Co's....
* Holding Lot or Insurance Company agrees to sell to auction
* Auction sells car with salvage Title to highest bidder
* Highest bidder (must have dealer license to attain) takes car apart and
sells for profit
Robert, from your post, Protech is the Auction House.... Once they sell it,
just like your hotel room #, they can't, by law, reveal the buyer..... What
is not clear, is if they have sold the car already.... Is it up for auction?
Or did they sell it? If it is still up for auction, you can go with any
dealer that has a license, and bid for the car, the paperwork has to be made
out to the dealer tho... If you want to go that route, I can get you that
dealer, but expect to pay a fee for his help.... The best thing, in
retrospect, you could have done, was negotiate the "salvage" value at the
time of settlement, and just kept the car.... Cheaper and less hassle all
round......
