According to my Bentley, the "fuse in the fuel pump" trick does not
work with the 3B engine and Motronic engine management system.  You
need the expensive VW test tool to dump the codes.  I'm surprised that
the "Check Engine" light came on, since I was told that the 200q's
didn't have that light (I never saw mine come on when the ignition is
switched).  

I think Ned has one of those VW diagnostic testers.  Maybe you can
convince him to dump the diagnostics for you.
