RE: temp. sender repair?

As to the temp. sensor ("electronic thermoswitch" in Bentleyese), there is a
common internal fault which causes the sensor not to read properly.

On the inside of the sensor there are two small circuit boards, one of which
is soldered to the spade plugs which attach to the external connector. These
solder joints seem to go bad after time probably a result of expansion and
contractions from countless thermal cycles, causing the sensor to
intermittently fail until it fails entirely. I had repaired a few of the
sensors in the past, but the difficulty of opening and resealing the sensor
makes it a real PITA.

It is unlikely that coolant entered the sender at the plastic to brass seam
as there is an O ring there. You might want to double check the connector
and verify continuity as the coolant may have corroded the wires in the
connectors where they are crimped.

As to a common cause with the malfunctioning coolant level switch. I'd say
its very possible although I don't have the Bentley to verify the schematic.
Might check the ground circuit first...
