100tw @300K km
Hi all,
This week's Dutch AutoWeek magazine features a 1987 Audi 100 Avant turbo.
They run a series that features cars that have been 'round the clock' a few
times, which is still a novel feature here. I love it, because it generally
shows that you don't have to discard today's cars when they reach 100K km,
the magic number.
Audis have featured in this sieries regularly, with recent mention of a
very high mileage 80 diesel with incredibly low gas mileage. This week's
star car is a 89 Audi 100, which the present owner took over as a company
car when the director discarded it as a 1-yr-old. AutoWeek comments that
the car still looks fantastic, and that there's not a lot wrong with it.
The list of past repair bills makes for frightening reading, though. I'm
sure all 5K/100 owners can relate to high bills for a/c units, steering
racks, window mechanisms, exhaust systems, clutches... the list is endless
and the amounts of money paid are incredible. Still, the car looks like new
outside and in.
Anyone interested in a translation of this article and a rundown of the
costs, please email me privately.
Bye,
Tom
