HELP!! Prospective Audi Owner..

Friends, I'm sending this to you from a friend of mine on the Z-car
list. As you read it, you will find that he has a NEAT opportunity
to become an Audi owner!! But he needs technical help!!

PLEASE RESPOND DIRECTLY TO HIM, AS HE IS NOT ON THE LIST - YET.

I have advised him that chances are the oil sender is bad and the
pump is OK. I checked my manual and advised him on the replacement
procedure for the 1990 200.....but I don't know if the oil pump is
the same on the '85 5k. I thought the silly thing was externally
accessible, but it's NOT on the 1990 200. PLEASE advise him in
detail if you have ever replaced an oil pump.

I'm betting it's the sender. I can make him a gauge to screw into
the sending unit hole for about $40, if anyone can tell me the
thread, or send me a dead oil pressure switch to examine....

let's make another Audi owner!! I know this gent - he's a very
decent guy - doesn't have a lot of money, but he's an electronics
whiz and has helped me a lot!

Subject: audi question

hey al. there is a guy i work with who has an audi 5000 that he might
*give* me. it is at his house in huntsville, alabama, and when his house
sells he needs to move it or ditch it. he does not want to move it, so
there is a chance he might just give it to me if i will drive it back.

anyway, it is an '85 audi 5000, and the latest problem is that the oil light
has come on and won't go off. it has plenty of oil in it. i can't see the
car until the time comes to drive it home; i will have to fix it there at
his house and drive it 1000 miles back to austin. i prefer to not have to
fix it again on the highway, and getting stranded is absolutely out of the
question (beginning to see why he does not want to drive it home either). i
need a preliminary assessment of what might be wrong so i can very quickly
assess the damages, fix it, and be on my merry way back.

so i thought you might be so kind as to inquire of the audi mailing list
members as well as offering any advice you have. i'll need to know
everything down to what tools i will need (probably i will be flying to
huntsville to get it, need to pack lightly on tools or send some tools with
someone going that way), wrench sizes, parts i might need, quick fixes for
roadside ailments, etc. i hear the entire rest of the car is sound. i
know, it could be a sending unit gone bad, or it could be a bad oil pump. i
just need to know where to start. guess i oughtta get a shop manual too.

thanks mucho-
