Just to add My 0.2c worth I use an Air Bag type jack (Powered By the 
Exhaust) when I'm out and about as it doesn't weigh Much it's Dead easy 
to Use, almost impossible to damage car with it and if the worst happens 
i.e. You get a puncture firstly You hear the noise of Gas coming out of 
the Bag (Which Can't Rip Due to Material Used and the overal Low pressure 
of the Bag) and because the volume contained in the Bag is quite it takes 
quite a good while to lower itself down and become dangerous.

P.S. when working on My car @ home I used a good Trolley Jack and Very 
Good Axle Stands.
