I had a 82VW Jetta with 340k km's (over 200k miles) on it before
retirement... was putting 20W50 or straight SAE 50 in it to keep from
burning oil; understandable with that sort of mileage, but it always liked
to burn oil.... My Audi '93 100CSQ with on 55k km's (40k miles)
surprisingly also likes to sip oil... a litre every 3k km's of the 10W30....
the dealer stated that Audi considers this normal down to a litre every 1000
kilometres, which is ludicrous! They pour in 15W40 for the summer to reduce
consumption, and 10W30 for winter. Many newer cars run tight tolerances and
specify 5W30 all year round. Does Audi build 'loose' engines?
