Can't Listen to Jim Rome (AM Reception)

Radio Tech People:

In SoCal, Jim Rome's show is on AM 690 out of San Diego (actually across
the border in Mexico so they can have 50k+ watts of transmission).  When
I am in my car with the stock radio and "in-windshield" antenna, the
reception is really bad when the engine is on, but is better when the
engine is off.

Any suggestions in fixing this nonsense?

BTW, do any of you listen to Rome or Ferrell?  They are both truly
ridiculous and great if you like sports.
