Pike's Peak date

The official race at Pike's Peak is conducted on July 4 every year.
There is much preparation going on before this date but as far as I know
no official events prior to it.

This is a terrific area for a vacation destination. I have made the trip
three times in the last six years. Each time driving well over a
thousand miles but from three completely different directions; SoCal,
Dallas, and NE Iowa. I _will_ be there again next year (I go every other
year). So if anyone else is planning the trip, USA Quattro Meet or no,
let's plan to meet up. There are plenty of places for a large group to
gather, provided someone gets there early enough. Since July 4, 1997 is
a Friday, I'll most likely take the whole week and can volunteer to be an
early arrival.

I usually like to rough it overnight up at Devil's Playground. Seems
like the weather is nice every year I'm NOT there. Last visit (1995), it
snowed and was in the 20's the whole time. Was glad to have the heated
seats in the 5kcstq, but not a comfortable sleeper in general. Time
before that (1993) there were gale force winds. I was there from Dallas
in the Coupe and parked next to a couple of guys in a red 4000Q from MN.
They had a tent and were treated to a rolling tour of the area in the
middle of the night in their tent ending with an up close underbody
examination of the dorF Exfoliator parked on the other side of me. (Any
of you guys on the list?) I was obliviously snoozing in the driver's
seat of the GT being gently rocked by the winds howling outside. Next
year I will have the comfort of the 200q _wagon_ (which is part of the
reason I bought a wagon).

The Pike's Peak locale for the Q-Meet seems like a no brainer. Good
vacation area. Good vacation dates. An auto racing event. An auto
racing event that at least _used to_ include Audi's. The 75th
anniversary of said event. Therefore possible participation or presence
of AoA. And as centrally located as any other _popular_ suggestion thus
far.

See you there!
