Very unlikely that you have a 4.2L, as they appeared in the later V8s only.
Unless someone changed the engine out. ;) Our V8 engines are completely
computer controlled. Get someone or the dealer to read out the fault codes
and you'll be able to isolate your problem. I bet it is a dead O2 sensor.
