Parts bin cars

I've heard it said many times about the urqs ...
 
I had occasion to pull most of the auxilliary relay panel this evening.  One of 
the relays is marked with part # 311 969 141B.

And it's stamped, as they all are, with its date of manufacture.  Most are "11 
1987" - the car was first registered in the UK on 1 August 1988.
 
But this _one_ relay - "4 1975".

It's gone back in, and it's still working perfectly.  But a twenty one year old 
relay in an eight year old car?
