Audi Theft Prevention

Is there anyway you know on the 5k's to let the car run for 30sec or so?
When my pump stops, the engine stops --pronto! With a delay, the perps get
out on the road hopefully in full view, blocking traffic. More likely
to get by with little damage with that much publicity. On mechanical
pumps, I used a solenoid valve in the gas line. The timing was perfect:
one bowl of gas and the creep was stranded and fled. --Gary

At the QCUSA event at Portland, OR a couple of weeks ago, one of the QCUSA
members who came down from Seattle had his 83 ur-Q stolen (briefly) during
the middle of the night (sometime early Saturday morning). The car thieves
must have gotten spooked because the car was found abandoned the next morning
a few blocks from the Hotel where it was taken. He was very Lucky to get his
car back so soon!

To add some additional theft protection and make it more difficult for
someone to steal my car, I normally install a "kill switch" that disconnects
the electric fuel pump from the ECU Fuel pump relay control so that even if
the car is hot wired (steering column lock/switch bypassed) the car may start
but will quickly die and not restart.

The 86-90 5000/200TQ's with the MAC11/MAC14 ECU's use terminal #21 to control
the fuel pump relay. This wire can be disconnected with a switch to disable
the fuel pump. My 89 200TQ has a factory alarm system but it only keeps the
starter from working during a theft. Aftermarket alarm systems could also be
used to activate this fuel pump disable feature.

The fuel pump toggle switch should be hidden to prevent accidental activation
while driving or detection by the thieves. Electronics could be used to make
the switch more intelligent and prevent fuel pump cutout after the engine is
running. The switch is a cheap system that I have found to be easier and
quicker to activate than using one of those steering wheel locking/club
devices. Some people have used dummy dash switches to activate this cutout.

Just my $0.02 worth of theft protection
