My '91 200qw does it too.  Glad to hear that I'm not alone.  I had
adopted the head-in-sand approach; didn't want to hear any bad news and
was waiting too see if it got worse.  Guess it won't.  As a matter of
fact I do remember my 5ktq doing something like that with the center diff
locked.
