093 manual tranny sticking
What could cause a manual tranny to be extremely difficult to engage?
My transmission is having problems. Sometimes I cannot engage it in any
gear easily, I have to apply a lot of pressure in 3rd, 4th, or 5th to
get it in. Once it goes in, however, it will shift into any gear
as long as I keep the clutch in (so I think the shift linkage bushings
are ok). It only gets stuck at very low speeds, or when at a stop, and is
intermittent. Regardless of this, whenever I try to shift, the
transmission feels "wrong". It feels like the synchros do not quite do
their jobs, or are fighting the shift.
Several months back, I replace the tranny oil with Valvoline synthetic
75w90, from Pep Boys. I checked it while I was having clutch problems
a few weeks back, and it was ~1/2 bottle low (how much is a bottle,
two quarts?). Topping it off had no effect, and it seems to be getting
worse with time. The clutch engages and disengages perfectly (as it
should after new slave & master cylinders).
Help?
Thanks,
Eric
