Re: Vacuum Pump experiment
Brendan,
I stay up late at night wondering the same question as yourself. The
engine produces plenty of vacuum by itself without the pump...( that is why
the brakes feel normal when the engine is on and the pump disconnected... But
try to stomp on the brakes with the engine at full throttle.. The brake pedal
will start to become hard as a rock... As to why it's there?? Overkill I
suppose.. The only Audi's that needed it were the early turbos. With the
turbo spooled up and the brakes on the boost from the turbo would push the
pedal up. You have to work double time to stop.. Of course the designers
thought that normal people would have their foot off of the gas when
stopping...
