Wierd brake problems...
Introduction -
my car is a 1990 100 Quattro. Stock 15" rims, standard size tires.
i have about 100,000 miles on it. ( seat heaters still work, too!!!! )
I bought the car at ~50k miles. I needed all four new brakes and rotors, so I
got them. OEM, from the local dealership, and had them install them.
Had my brakes bled and refilled somewhere between then and now.
I've been noticeing recently that my brakes were acting funny. If I stepped
on them hard, they stopped fine, the way brakes normally do.
However, if I hit the brakes lightly for a little while, as in coming to a
stop at a stoplight at a slow speed; they felt a little weak, and it felt as
though they were shimmy-ing a little bit.
So, I took my car into the shop to have them look at the brakes.
This is where the story gets wierd - The front brakes are in near perfect
condition. The rear brakes are pretty much toast, and the rotors are warped.
?
The fronts should wear FASTER than the rears, due to weight transfer, no?
The fronts should _wear_.
Any ideas? I need new brakes, and I want the dealership to pay for them,
because it would appear they f$#ked something up either when they did the
brakes the first time, or when they bled the brakes.
My thoughts:
1. Rear brakes are ...whatdoyoucallit... draging.. whatever, they're always
on for some reason.
2. Front brakes are dysfunctional - air bubbles in the brake line? Something
wrong with the calipers? Something wrong with the way pressure is applied
to the various brakes?
Any help would be greatly appriciated,
brooks
BTW - please reply to my email account, I keep getting dropped from this
list, I think because my mail bounces evry so often..?
