Eric is right. For a crisp turn-in you need a wider rim/lower aspect
ratio (for added stiffness against increasing lateral acceleration in
the corner). The setup, described hereabove (a so-called +0 concept),
was chosen because:
1. My car was a 5sp 5000s, no turbo/quattro. It had only 115hp (KZ
engine) and was pretty heavy. Due to the same reason I did not chip it.
I was interested more in the looks than in performance (always wanted a
200TQ!).
2. The +0 concept was very inexpensive. I did not have to buy the
wheels, just the tires (Yokos 378, H-rated).
3. The +1 or +2 concept would have demanded to spend more money on the
new wheels, than the car was worth itself.
So, Steve, weigh all pros and cons.
