Re[2]: Cold start problem...
I had the same problem with my '87 5KCSTQ. It turned out to be a
bad thermo switch for the idle stabilization system. Some days
the car would start and some days it wouldn't but it always
started when warm.
If you have the same car as me you can try this quick check to
see if the thermo switch is bad. Near the front of the engine on
the drivers side you will see two thermo switches with a single
wire running to them. One switch is in plain sight the other is
located under the hydraulic pump. The switch under the pump
sends a signal to idle stabilization control unit mounted under
the dash. Neither jumper the two switches with a wire or
disconnect the wires from each switch and reconnect the wires to
the opposite switch. Now start the car when it is cold. If it
runs OK, it was a bad thermo switch, if not keep looking. It
could be that you need to replace either the stabilization
control unit which is mounted under the dash to the left of the
steering wheel or the stabilization control valve which is
mounted under the hood (a.k.a. bonnet).
If you do need a control unit call me I have one for sale.

I just had the battery replaced and put in 10W40 (to replace 20W-50) and the
car starts more easily now when it's cold outside.
