Re: Help - fuel delivery problems
Thanks for all the input on my Quantum's fuel problems. Here's an update.
I decided to check out the thing I knew the most about first - the fuel pump.
There's nothing like luck in the world, except maybe audi quattro list
educated guesses. Upon removal of the pump, I noticed that the rubber sleeve
around the pump was well on its way to disintegration. It that sleeve to
dampen the buzz out? Is this why they make so much noise when going bad? So
apparently though my engine runs way rich on cold starts, my problem was due
to a lean condition caused by little bits of rubber blocking the fuel
passage. Those of you that corrected me and said it sounded like a leaning
out problem get kudos.
Now comes the hard part - trying to find a fuel pump without mortgaging
anything and have it here before Friday. Yeah - right! I don't suppose I
would be lucky enough to find someone selling just the rubber sleeve would I?
Thanks again for the tips. I have a library of things to check next time I
run into fuel problems. And since it's Thanksgiving season, I'm really
really thankful that I wasn't stranded somewhere in the boonies by a failing
fuel pump. I guess that's the beauty of Audis - they always let you know
when they're feeling bad and needing some attention. And they very rarely
leave you stranded.
May the turkey not be the only thing stuffed.
