parking break

Hey guys, We just had our first little bit of winter storm action here in
Saint Louis, and it was actually the first time I had driven My quattro in
the snow.  Very satisfying.  Anyway, here is my problem.  I woke up this
morning and started up the car, went to back out of the driveway and the
parking break was frozen.  I couldn't let it out for anything.  I
eventually got it disengaged with the help of a blow dryer and a screw
driver, but how can I prevent this from happening again?  Is this something
that you guys have experienced before?  Maybe I just won't use it.  Just
park it in 1st.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.
