Audi in January EC
the post person recently delivered a mostly unread copy of EC for January.
Lots of nice things to say about Audi and what is coming to the US of A.
For those of who who don't read, or have not yet received your copies,
please permit me to highlight some of their observations.
A4:
A new engine is the big news for Audi's superb compact sedan. (sentece
describing the 1.8t) Otherwise, the A4 reamins the same handsome,
confortable small luxury car as before wtih minor refinements to trim and
amenities including a new trip computer and remote locking system. It is
an excellent vlaue for the money; . . .
Two attrbiutes ahred with other Audis set the A4 apart from much of its
competition. First it is great fun to drive, at all times, and--in
quattro--form oin any weather conditions.
Several paragraphs devpyted to the A6. Perhaps the most important being
"it is still one of the better sporty sedansavailable, good for covering
long distances in comfort. It appearance may be too understated for
some, but the current A6 is, as always, a genuinely nice car to drive."
A8
4 paragraphs using some very nice words. Last para. " The a8's biggest
attribute is, however, its blend of silky smotthness, speed and
habitability. (and now my favorite line) Especially in 4.2 quattro form,
it is surely one of the best choices for the financially untroubled."
I love it--what a great tag line--for the financially untroubled.
After reviewing all the '97 european offerings, they do a "coming
attractions" section. I don't think any of what follows is especially
new, but:
a 5 vlave, 190hp version of the V6 with uprated suspension and trim go
into an S$ for the '98 model year, & just maybe the Avant that is already
being sold in Europe. A6 gets replaced in model year '98 & likely to see
the A8 V8 powering an S6 model--currently in Europe as the A6, 4.2.
A8 gets rebodied in 2 to 3 years--(Wow) though a 340hp S8 with sport
suspension and 6 speed manual may be sold in the US before that.
TT due to arrive in 2 years, wiht 2 different powerplants based on the 1.8t.
'scuse me--gotta go buy a few lottery tickets and sit down and write a
letter:
Dear Santa:
Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.
