I can only provide some insight into questions 1 & 5.

My 87 4kq has 161,000 miles on it.  Never a problem of any kind at all 
with the injection system.  Seems to be about as bullet proof as the 
engine.

I'd take the 4kq over the 5k (q or non-q) from 86 any day of the week.  
My wife had an 85 5k FWD.  And while it was generally an enjoyable car it 
sopent far too much time in the shop, out of warranty, with all kinds of 
problems.  We dumped it after the lease expired.  Never even thought 
about buying it off of the lease.
