I absolutely agree, I also have an 85 4ksq.  When I bought the car, it 
had that same valve tap.  I changed the oil with a synthetic, and voila, 
no more valve tap.  The car reminds me religiously at 2500-3000 miles 
that it is time to change it's oil.  Car's got more personality than 
some people I know.
