Audi news - Brazil Plant

FYI.....

INGOLSTADT, Germany, Dec 5 (Reuter) - Audi AG <VOWG.F>, the
luxury car unit of Germany's Volkswagen AG <VOWG.F>, said on
Thursday that it could invest well over 500 million marks in a
Brazilian production plant but that no final decision has been
made.
Audi has planned to build a factory in Brazil where the new
compact A3 model for Latin American markets would be produced.
A final contract over the plant is expected by the end of
next week, Audi officials have said.
``The investment will be more than 500 million marks but it
could also be clearly above that level,'' an Audi spokesman told
Reuters in response to an enquiry.
Industry sources have said that investment in a new Latin
American factory could run into the billions of marks.
The Audi spokesman also confirmed a report in the German
newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung that the factory in Brazil could
have production of about 30,000 of the Audi A3s as well as the
VW Jetta model.
