Anyhow, how is it starting to "die."

If its just a matter of opening and closing slowly with some moaning from 
the motor, it might be just a case of dirty guides and tracks that simply 
need a good cleaning.  

I use WD 40 or something similar just spray it all over the guides and 
wipe it off with some rage.  I do that several times a year.  To relube 
it sometimes I use a teflon based spray sometime silicone.  I cannot tell 
if there is any real differecne between the two.

I'm sure some of the more technically oriented folks in the group will 
have a better answer for you.
