It fits perfectly into the little well on the pass side, just like 
the one that the spare wheel sits in on the driver side.
So there is no need for a tray (in my opinion).
The venting is done just like on the 5000 series models.
Usually Audi batteries come with a vent hole on top of the side of 
the battery and ables you to hook up a hose a'la winshield washer and 
stick it ou side through a hole of your choice to vent the gases.
Hope this helps.
BTW this was the first mod I did on the car becouse I was pissed off 
at the lack of space.
