'87 5KCSTQW MPG & PS Pump Question

Hello all,

I have an '87 5KTQW and in the last few months the MPG has dropped from an
average of about 27.5 mpg to about 22.5 mpg. Don't seem to have and
performance problems - great starting and acceleration. Any thoughts???

Also, now when I turn the wheel there is bit of a growling, fluttering
sound cominng from the power steering pump. No leakage and the the wheels
turnn fine but am wondering if this portends serious things thatmay fail
on a long trip or ??? Any experience with this kind of thing.
