You really cannot go wrong with either car.  If you want or need the 
larger wheelbase and size then the S4/S6 is certainly the way to go.  
Numerous mods are available to make it go, stop, turn and handle better.

The A4 of course is the latrest Audi has to offer--at least in the US.  
Probably going to be paying close to top dollar for an A4 1.8tq stick and 
the aftermarket guys are just getting geared up to allow you to really 
tweak the car.

Don't think you can really make a bad decision her.

Get one of each!
