Drive train service questions

              Seing that we both have the same car 89 200q , even the color,
i thought that I would ask you .

        I can hear a definate wering sound coming from the drive train. like
under the shifter.
        Its very apparent at 2000 rpm. especially in 4th gear. 

        Is there some kind of service I should be doing or am I headed for
some trouble??
