Euro lights vs. H4/H1

After being on the list for a little while now, I gather that if you're a 4000 
owner wanting better lighting, you can install 4 rectangular QI lights in an 
early ('80-'84) grille or the $400-a-set Euro lights in an '85-'87 grille. Has 
anyone ever done a direct comparison? I'm guessing the Euro lights are 
probably better, but by how big a margin?
 
Also, "BTDT" keeps cropping up--what's that stand for? I'm guessing "been there,

done that."
