Not true. My first Audi was a non-quattro. I quickly
decided that I wanted a quattro, but nonetheless, I
bought my 1988 90 non-q 5cyl because it was a great car.
Would I buy another now? For my mother or sister or
wife, yes. None of them drive "vigorously" and don't care
to go out when it snows. I on the other hand HATE it if
the snow doesn't stick :)
If there was no quattro option on the A4, and I had 23k
to spend, not sure what I'd buy - the Legacy GT maybe?
Looks good on paper, but what about after 200k? Maybe
a GTI VR6 or GLX, maybe a used BMW. Who knows?
Thankfully, AoA has seen fit to keep developing the Iltis
technology and has shown even more foresight in importing
the cars to the US. Now if they would just tap into their
rally and racing heritage and bring us the sport models,
we'd be set for life!
Best wishes for a great 1997 everyone.
