'87 5k injector/manifold update...
For those of you with long memories, I finally ended up pulling the head off
my mother's '87 5kw ... needless to say, I didn't find any plastic pieces or
broken injector inserts in the cylinders so I guess they were already broken
when I replaced them. However, I DID find all 5 cylinders were still within
spec and the cross-hatching was still visible, this despite having covered a
total of 143k miles. Truly amazing!
BTW, after finding the stainless steel injector tip in the intake manifold,
I decided to take my chances on NOT pulling the head and started putting it
back together. Of course, that's when two of the exhaust studs broke and I
wasn't able to drill them out with the head still on the block ... probably
needed a valve job anyway, though, so it wasn't a big deal. :^(
