Early Audi Stylings....

This banter about the Ferrari's exciting styling promped me to post a
few interisting notes. (Its this or working on my thesis!)

I got a, ItalDesign-Giugiaro book describing the Prototypes and
production models that have been developed.
ID and Giugiaro have designed the 1978 4000 (80), first gen Golf and
Scirocco, Dasher, Lotus Esprit, etc... Some nice work, some others are
questionable.

The prototypes listed a car called the Marlin (1984). It look a lot like
the aero 5000 (100) with the no-grill Passat front end. The timing is
off, I believe Audi had the 5000 about the same time. Anyway, looks like
a dead ringer for the 5000 Treser.

The REAL gem is Giugiaro's Audi Karmann (1973). The profile view is a
dead ringer for the 1st gen Coupe. The difference is the front clip. The
prototype has a very Scirocco-ish front with 4 round headlamps (no
bumper).
I remember seeing the Audi Karmann in a VW & Porsche mag. That issue was
discussing VW's involvement with Karmann over the years leading up to
the Corrado. The Audi Karmann was shown in the Karman museum.

For whot its worth...
