What (very bad) mistake did I make here? I said that Saab said their
turbo engines were more efficient than a comperably sized engine without
it. I have no research either way.
If you are arguing my statement that when idling, a SC is less efficient
than the same sized (not COMPERABLY sized) engine. I have heard this
from other's with much more experience with SCs than I, and tend to
agree with it. A supercharger without a bypass, driven by a belt,
is quite a drag on the engine. Surely you wouldn't say that running
the Air Conditioner doesn't increase fuel consumption?

HELLO!?! If you quoted more than 4 words, it's quite apparent that I"m
not talking physically about the weight distribution on the turbine, but
rather ballencing the design requirements -- a small turbo that spools up
more quickly, versus a larger turbo that can generate more power at the
high end. I am *WELL* aware that a turbo spins at over 100K RPM.
Perhaps "tune" would ahve been a better choice of words, but it was
apparent in the context I was using.
No offense intended, but is english your native language?

I would suggest that you get some humility... Your message to me has
not demonstrated a lack on knowledge on my part, nor a superiority of
knowledge about this subject on your part. I'm not interested in
debating which of us knows more about turbo versus supercharging -- it's
just that your post doesn't DEMONSTRATE it.
Enjoy,
Sean
