high pitch sound when cold

Only when cold? Probably a belt - most likely the hydraulic/steering pump.
There _is_ a form of manifestation of the crankshaft oil seal squeal that is
cured by driving the car - and one that is not. You obviously haven't got the
latter, but it's possible you have the former. The next time the noise
happens, leap out of the car and pull the dipstick - if the squeal stops you
have an oil seal "problem". Otherwise, it's a belt. Clutch throwout happens
on gear changes ...
