I installed a set of hella series 500 driving lights on the bumper of my 
'87 4000csq.  Like you I wasn't satisfied with the original lighting.  My 
hella's cost me about 100 dollars after shipping.  They work really well 
and improve lighting tremendously(not to mention that they look pretty 
cool as well).  For an extra amount of money you can use upgraded high 
performance bulbs. This also requiores an upgraded wiring harness.
