It's a little more than that.  I just helped a friend defeat the DRL
on his 96 Jetta GLX VR6.  It requires the installation of the euro
headlight switch, as well as pulling out the DRL relay.  That DRL relay
was a bitch to get to.  I also helped him wire in a rear fog light
since the euro light switch has provisions for it.

This is all described in a European Car article about their Project Jetta
GLX.

The brake warning light now no longer comes on when the parking brake is
pulled up (it still comes on and goes out when first turning the key to on).
Since the DRL was originally activated only when disengaging the parking
brake, I think by pulling the DRL relay somehow disconnected the parking
brake switch to the brake warning light.  Without a full wiring diagram
I really can't tell how to remedy this (I'll bet a simple jumper from one
contect of that relay socket to another will do the trick, I just need
to find out which!).

No Audi content, but I thought I'd share this info anyway.
