This is probably very close to the truth IMHO.

Yes, this is very possible I think.  Suppose you take a 2.8 A4, add twin 
turbos, some suspension goodies, 17" wheels, etc, and sell it for 45,000 
instead of 35,000.  That would have a much better chance of making the 
grade.  Unfortunately, I wonder if $45,000 might be just a little too 
daunting.
