Well, I personally *do* lengthen the change interval to offset
the cost.

But for those of us in cold climates, there is an answer to
your question, and it's this: because synthetics flow much easier
at very cold temperatures.  Having Mobil-1 in your crankcase
can mean the difference between "start" and "need a jump"
in extreme cold, or in weak-battery cases.

So, that's one answer.
