New (to me) Avant

Sorry to bring the tone of the list down from new A4Ts S6s etc, but:

I have just bought a new (1989) 2.2litre Avant to replace my smashed 83 
Avant.

Its very nice, but with a few little niggles:

It's done 115k miles (now on its 3rd speedo)

It fogs up when demister used - needs new heater core
 - how long does this job take?

VERY firm brake pedal and a lot of force needed.  4 jabs brings on warning 
light - needs new pressure acc (bomb) - I did this last year on the other 
Avant - Damn!

Changing into second causes a jolt through the transmission.  I know I am 
not matching the revs yet, but it shouldn't jolt so much.  Any ideas?

Tailgate comes straight down - needs new struts - expensive I'll bet (the 
ones in the other Avant are just as bad).

Best parts - I paid GBP2500 for it - incredible value, but most books show 
this as being about right for age, mileage and condition.  I was prepared to 
travel over most of England to find it - I found it two villages away - 5 
mins drive.
