Porsche were customers of mine in the early 1980s, and I spent some time at
Weissach. At the time, the main project there was the Passat "tetra", which
was subsequently launched as the "synchro".

The standard joke was that they didn't actually test cars at Weissach - they
just drove them up from the factory. Anyone who's been up the road from
Zuffenhausen to Weissach will know why!

(In the old days, before the 120kph limit on the Autobahn past Zuffenhausen,
it was quite normal to be passed by test vehicles doing monstrous speeds. The
giveaway was the Weissach registration "BB-PW nnnn". I once followed a
microbus at 130mph!)
