Brake light turns red under hard braking in 1990cq

Folks:

In the past week I noticed that the "Brake" light momentarily
turned red duirng two panic stops.  Later, with the car stationary,
I quickly pushed the brake pedal to its limit, again the light 
momentarily flashed red....

Fluid level looks ok....Should I be looking into a new bomb,
or is this an early sign of a MC going terminal????
