Finally, someone who admits why they are on such a quest for performance!
I applaud your coming out of the closet on this. 

I certainly won't admit that my brother's car is faster, even though he
has the 2.3l I-5 and I have the 2.22l.  And none of the performance upgrades
I make are to help me beat him.  I can take him right now, as is.  I know
I can, I just know it...
