Start with a complete tune-up: plugs, rotor, Bosch distributor cap,
maybe wires depending on miles since replacement, fuel filter, etc.

If the problem persists: O2 sensor, Idle Compensation Regulator/Valve.
I just replaced the latter last night (177K) and she idles smoothly for
the first time in 100K, I wasn't too bothered by the varying idle
(1200-1700 RPM). Some have bigger complaints when the ICR goes bad.
Make sure you replace it with one from the OEM manufacturer.
