Re: vt mechanics
I want to include my endorsement of Larry Reed in Williston VT. He's an
excellent mechanic and really thinks about problems rather than just
putting in a new tranny to see if the problem will go waway. In December
a few days before I was to leave on a long trip my anti-lock off light
came on as did the light for the center diff lock. Neither switch was
activated. i called in panic; "come over as soon as I get back from the
dentist'. Larry is not a replace and see what happens technician; while
in the chair he `thought' about it and when I got there he fixed iit in 15
minutes.
Here's the solution. When you turn the diff lock control it sends a
signal to a switch which does two things (1)it turns off the anti-lock
system and (2) it turns on the light indicating diff lock on. There was
a heat shield bent a little and contacting this switch. Larry bent it
back; lights went out and I am delighted. I didn't know all this but
Larry did; he not only fixed it but educated me.
When I was looking for my Quattro I also used Buffum and Company
in Colchester for pre-buy inspections. Both John Buffum and John
Beauvois there know Audis well, having raced and rallyed and gave me
great service. Their location is less convenient for me than Larry Reed
but I would recommend them as well.
