Very easy to tell: the P/S fluid (green Pentosin 7.1 in your case) makes
a very sticky mess, which is very hard to remove. The engine oil does
not.

When it happened on my old '85 5000s I just took the whole combo swith
apart and resoldered the cracked PCB. Works well up to this day.
If you decide to do it yourself, please be aware that the combo switch
is a fairly complex device. Do it very carefully and slowly, on an empty
table, lined with a white rag or paper. It has a number of spring loaded
Berillium Bronze contacts. If you take it apart in a rush, they may
start jumping on you, making a switch a true 3D puzzle.
